It is a basilical church, whose foundation dates back to the High Middle Ages. Although it has undergone several changes throughout the centuries still conserves part of the central ship.
It is located near the castle in Beja but in the zone extra-muros.
At the moment it hosts the Visigothic Center of the Regional Museum of Beja, whose collection of architectural elements constitutes the most important set known in the national territory. Its existence justified the classification of the city of Beja as capital of Visigothic in Portugal.
