The building of the old theater of the village of Cabeção is one of the few existing copies in Portugal of cultural buildings of the artistic chain Arte Nova, very much in vogue at the beginning of the century.
The old theater in the village of Cabeção is part of an artistic movement called Arte Nova, where decorative principles exert a great influence on architecture and applied arts (which is visible not only inside but also outside the building), particularly between 1890 and 1910 (Art Nouveau) derives from the name of an interior decoration gallery inaugurated in Paris at the end of the 19th century: Maison de l'Art Noveau. In decorative motifs, the use of winding lines inspired by vegetalista (foliage and stylized flowers) or naturalistic (waves, water fountains, flames, for example) are characteristic.
