Also known as "Ponte Antiga", it is one of the symbols of Tavira. On its origin there are divergent theories, the most probable being the existence of a previous Roman bridge of Century III, that would have been rebuilt, or even constructed one in his place, in the beginning of the medieval period, reason why some also call this bridge of "Romanesque Bridge of Tavira".
Linking the two banks of the river Gilão, right in the center of Tavira, this Bridge has therefore undergone several changes throughout the centuries, remaining in the seventeenth century with its present aspect. Since 1989, during the great floods that took place here, the bridge became pedestrian.
Located in Tavira, Algarve.
Nowadays it is obligatory passage point for its beauty and asymmetry, granting a beautiful landscape of the city of Tavira.
