The Museum of Mines and Metal (MMM) is a Brazilian museum located in the city of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais.
It is part of the Praça da Liberdade Cultural Circuit and was opened on March 22, 2010 with an architectural project by Paulo Mendes da Rocha and a museographic project by Marcello Dantas.
It is set in two segments: the Museum of Mines, on the first floor and the second floor; and the Metal Museum, on the second floor and third floor. Altogether, there are 18 rooms.
It is installed in a 19th century building listed by IEPHA.
The space has the proposal to highlight the daily and economic importance of ores and their cultural and social implications.
This floor houses seven rooms:
Chão das Estrelas, which consists of the Djalma Guimarães collection, spyglasses and telescopes;
Map of Mines, where the visitor locates the deposits through an interactive map indicates the location of the deposits.
In the Sala das Minas, part of the history of mining in Minas is told, from the Gold Cycle to the microprocessor industry - iron, gold, diamond, niobium, zinc, colored stones, manganese, graphite, aluminum, limestone and water;
Mineral Inventory formed by the physical collection of the Professor Djalma Guimarães Museum, whose collection is presented in interactive drawers;
Sala Miragem, where holographic effects are used to demonstrate the collection;
Environment Room, shows the life cycle of a mine and the consumption of minerals and natural resources;
Djalma Guimarães, with the identification of the geologist's biographical relevance
Metal Museum
The floor is divided into thematic axes and rooms:
Periodic table, with the demonstration of metallic tubes that make the chemical elements tangible;
Alloys and Compounds Room, shows the combination of metals and the formation of alloys;
Windows to the world, the use of metals at different times;
Sharp tongue, which shows the qualities of the metal, such as malleability and brightness;
Interactive Stations show the properties and production processes of metals;
Atoms Table, with a game that allows to handle elements of the periodic table;
Vil Metal, which makes it possible to compare the tangible value of metals with products;
Logistics, transporting extraction to steel plants;
Adorno do Corpo, where the visitor makes the virtual use of jewelry;
Vale Quanto Pesa, where an estimate is made of the presence of minerals in each visitor;
Operation:
Tuesday to Sunday, from 12 to 6 pm and on Thursday, from
12 pm to 10 pm
