The Historic Center of the city of Montemor-o-Novo, or what is usually called the '' old zone '', is an area of important heritage significance, with great historical, archeological, landscape, artistic, architectural and urban and in the peculiarity of some remarkable details.
It consists of two distinct areas from the point of view of urban use: the historical monumental zone (where the Castle is located and its surrounding structure, up to the Almansor river) and the urban area to be conserved (consolidated housing area).
It also maintains several functions that are essential for the entire city, from the housing, social, economic and cultural point of view, and therefore represent a potential that needs to be conserved, recovered, rehabilitated and revitalized.
