The Alberto Mena Caamaño Museum is located in a building of great historical trajectory, next to the Government Palace. The museum shows permanent colonial and republican art. Inside, it houses an invaluable collection of historical objects and documents from Quito's Royal Audience. The museum also displays French art objects, such as artist Alexander Barbieri, who based his work on Riobamba painter César Villacrés.

It is known as the "Wax Museum" because it depicts the scene of the assassination of patriots on August 2, 1909 in wax. The figures were made in Paris by Alexander Barbieri, who modeled on the pictorial work of César Villacrés in 1909, a painting at the Eloy Alfaro Military College.

City: Quito Sector: Historical Center Address: García Moreno y Espejo Opening Hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 4pm

The museum's collections are managed in thematic exhibitions distributed in four rooms:

Colonial Art: Permanent exhibition of colonial and republican art.

Modern Art: Ecuadorian modern art can be appreciated based on the works that won the annual "Mariano Aguilera" painting and sculpture prize. Room 3 takes the visitor on a Pedro Vicente Maldonado route to the first cry of independence and martyrdom of August 2, 1810 and culminates in the wax museum.

Wax Statues: In this room you can see the scene of August 2, 1810, in wax figures. The statues are located in the same place where the procedures were killed by the Lima military.

This exhibition has high visual content and high impact material. The visitor will be immersed in the content, which makes this space a didactic, fun and interesting site.
