The foundation of the Monastery of the Nazarenas dates from August 27, 1727 by approval of Pope Benedict XIII. Its inauguration took place on March 18, 1730.
The church itself was completed during the government of Viceroy Amat.
The church was built on the old grounds of the colonial neighborhood of the blacks of Pachacamilla. It has a portal formed by four granite stone columns and carved cedar doors.
On the face of the lowered arch there is a heraldic shield that belonged to the viceroy Amat, and the shield of the Brotherhood, where the cross of the savior is drawn surrounded by stars.
It shows two bell towers with bronze bells. The central part of the altar is formed by two Tuscan fluted and gilded pilasters, which support a baroque façade, gilded and painted in oil. Inside this, as an urn, is the image of the Lord of Miracles, painted in oil on a rough adobe wall.

According to tradition, in 1651 an Angolan black slave painted the image of a Crucified Christ on one of the walls of the neighborhood sheds. Four years later an earthquake devastated the city and the part of the wall where the image was painted remained standing.
The same happened with the terrible earthquakes that devastated the city and the neighboring port of Callao on October 20, 1687 and October 28, 1746.
That image became the one with the greatest religious devotion of the Peruvians. He took the name of Lord of Miracles, and a replica of him took to the streets for the first time on the exact anniversary of the last earthquake.
Since that date, every year, in the month of October (days 18, 19 and 28), the replica of the image of the Purple Christ, as it is also called, travels the streets of the city of Lima. It is one of the largest religious processions in the Catholic world.
